Tamil Nadu is a state in the south-eastern part of the Indian Peninsula, previously a part of the United Madras Province, which was later partitioned based on languages. Tamil Nadu has more than 4,000 years of continuous cultural history, some of the most remarkable temple architecture in the country and a living tradition of music, dance, folk arts and fine arts.

Tamil Nadu is also well renowned for its temple towns and heritage sites, hill stations, waterfalls, national parks, local cuisine and the natural environment and wildlife. Four most amazing cities of South India, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pondicherry and Mahabalipuram, all are beautiful and filled with amazing tourist attractions. This trip showcases everything from ancient temples to modern township, and from enchanting man-made architecture to the natural beauty on the beaches.

Chennai - Kanchipuram- Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry

Day 1

Arrive into Chennai.

This morning arrive into Chennai Airport/Station and transfer will be provided to your chosen hotel. Post check in relax at your hotel or explore and orient yourself with the city.

Dinner Recommendation : Dinner at Saravana Bhavan, started as a stand-alone restaurant in 1981 and today is one the largest chain in the world. Enjoy their ghee roast dosa along with other delicious local delicacies.

Day 2

City tour of Chennai.

This morning after breakfast proceed for a City tour of Chennai. In the city one can find a strong British influence in the form of old cathedrals and the mix of Hindu, Islamic and Gothic revival styles that resulted in the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The tour starts from visiting the St. George's Fort, Santhome Church & the Kapaleeshwar Temple.

For lunch we recommend a stop at the Buhari who has been around since 1951 and is a pioneer in the non-vegetarian food segment. It gave India its Chicken 65 and was even featured in the National Geographic for this iconic dish. After lunch we resume our sightseeing trip and visit the Government Museum & Art gallery. Later a short detour to the local market for some shopping and we end the day with a magnificent sunset view on the Marina Beach.

Dinner recommendation : We recommend another iconic local restaurant The Nair Mess for their most popular dish Vanjaram fish fry. If you are looking for biryani then no better place than the Dindigul Thalappakatti who has gone on to become Chennai's most favourite biryani joint over the years. Started in 1956 it now operates over 40 outlets across Tamil Nadu and even has a presence in France and UAE.

Day 3

Chennai - Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram (Driving time: Approx. 73 Km / 02 Hrs)

This morning we check out after breakfast and drive towards Kanchipuram, the historical capital of Pallava kingdom (6-8 century AD). Kanchipuram, also known as Kanchi, is an ancient city in southern India's Tamil Nadu state. Considered a holy pilgrimage site by Hindus, it is home to many temples. The 8th-century Kailasanathar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a vast complex with intricate sandstone carvings. Ulagalanda Perumal Temple houses a huge statue of Lord Vishnu. A mango tree in the Ekambareswarar Temple courtyard is thought to be sacred.

After lunch at a local restaurant we recommend a quick stop to visit a handloom unit where silk saris are hand weaved.

Our next and final stop for today is the beautiful beach town of Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram an ancient port city and a listed UNESCO world site. After check-in, relax and enjoy the rest of the evening and dinner at your hotel.

Day 4

City tour of Mahabalipuram.

Today after a leisurely breakfast ,we head out for a tour. On the agenda today is a visit to the Shore Temple, Arjuna's Penance, Five Rathas Shrine and Krishna Mandapam. Back to the hotel for lunch and some relaxation at the beach.

Dinner recommendation : A trip to Mahabalipuram is incomplete without a visit to Moonrakers. The restaurant has been around for years and thanks to the popularity and constant visitors, they've been able to spread out a little more and even add a second restaurant in the area. It's one of the best seafood restaurants in Mahabalipuram and nothing will ever compare, no matter what.

Day 5

Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry (Driving time: Approx. 96 Km / 02.30 hrs).

Today we check out after breakfast and drive to Pondicherry, an enchanting city with a rich, vibrant, and colourful past that has shaped it the way it is today. Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the south eastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.

Post check in relax or head out for a stroll at the promenade or taste some French food at the local diner.

Dinner recommendation : A strong French influence has swayed the architecture and cuisine of Carte Blanche tremendously. Their cuisine is an intermingling of French and South Indian food called 'creole cuisine', which brings the area to life through the senses. The restaurant has courtyard seating and the proximity to nature makes the experience all the more delightful. The menu has a strong emphasis on seafood, all of which is served fresh, resulting in a delicious dish to entice your palate.

Day 6

City tour of Pondicherry.

Today on the agenda is a great mix of options to consider. Some interesting places on the bucket list for today are Paradise Beach, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, Serenity Beach, Arikamedu, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Varadaraja Perumal Temple. Meditation option at the ashram are available with prior reservation for those who want to get in touch with their inner self.

Tourists in Pondicherry can also indulge in various water activities like surfing, scuba diving etc. if they are seeking an adrenaline rush. Some local shopping for memorabilia and then back to the hotel for some relaxation.

Dinner recommendation : Appachi Chettinad breaks with the stereotype of everything in Pondicherry being associated with the French. Appachi is an old house that has been transformed into a restaurant with no lavish gardens or white washed walls, rather the décor is kept simple and natural. The thatched rooftop and the tamilian styled entrance pillars give the feel of a local home, and the traditional mouth watering Indian delicacies that are served add to this ambiance. Famous for their spices, Appachi Chettinad is the restaurant to visit to get the real taste of India, with their 'Chettinad' style of cooking.

Day 7

Pondicherry - Chennai Departure (Driving time: Approx.143 Km / 3 hrs).

The day to bid goodbye is here and after an early breakfast this morning we drive to Chennai Airport / Station for your journey back home. (B)
